In North America, Crossover SUVs have displaced sedans as the most popular vehicle type. Thanks to upgrades both inside and out, the redesigned 2019 Hyundai Tucson leads the way in this highly competitive segment.
The 2019 Hyundai Tucson
For 2019, the Hyundai Tucson is available in four trim levels: Essential, Preferred, Luxury and Ultimate. The current model year SUV receives an array of upgrades including a revised exterior, reshuffled powertrain options, more advanced safety features and optional Qi Wireless Charging.
A new cascading grille – surrounded by redesigned lighting – is the first thing to draw attention to the Tucson. Outback, there’s a revised rear bumper and available LED lighting. Exterior amenities include features like an available smart power liftgate and heated side mirrors with LED side repeaters.
Inside, the five-passenger cabin has been reworked as well, and now features a redesigned center stack. Noteworthy available features include heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, automatic dual-zone climate control and a panoramic sunroof. As always, cargo capacity is impressive, especially with the rear seats folded.

The 1.6L turbo engine has been discontinued, and it its place, are two naturally-aspirated engine options. First, there’s the standard GDI 2.0L four-cylinder (164 hp, 151 lb.-ft.). A 2.4L GDI four-cylinder (181 hp, 175 lb.-ft.) is also available on upper trim levels. A 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard across the board; all-wheel drive is an available option.
Further capability comes from technology such as Drive Mode Select, a feature that lets drivers choose between Normal and Sport settings. Hill-start Assist and Downhill Brake Control are also available.
Welcome to the digital age: the 2019 Hyundai Tucson boasts technology once only found on luxury cars. Inside the cabin, occupants are treated to a touchscreen infotainment system with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The BlueLink app increases capability with a suite of features that link the car with a smartphone to provide remote access.
Meanwhile, a surround view monitor and rain-sensing wipers improve ease of driving. And, new for 2019, there’s Qi Wireless device charging.
You’re never alone driving the Tucson. The Hyundai SUV packs a full suite of driver assistance features including Forward Collison Avoidance with Pedestrian Detection, Blind-Spot Warning with Lane Change Assist and Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keeping Assist.
