2019 Hyundai Sonata Sedan Features and SpecsAug 9th, 2019
The Sonata was refreshed just last year, and the manufacturer did a great job of fine-tuning the exterior styling. The Hyundai sedan is now more striking than it was and it’s definitely competing at the top level in the current mass-market midsize sedan segment. It looks sleek, modern, purposeful and even a little sporty, and probably looks a good deal more expensive than it actually is.
There are six different trim levels to choose from in the current Sonata lineup over in the US, which is more than a number of rivals, but not enough to confuse potential buyers. The entry model is the Sonata SE, and then the lineup goes to the Eco, SEL, Sport, Limited and top-of-the-range Limited 2.0T. Here in Canada, we get four trims that are named differently from their American counterparts. Here the entry model is the Essential, and then we have the Preferred, Luxury and the range-topping 2.0T Ultimate.
Buyers have three different engines to select from in the US version of the 2019 Sonata, but in Canada, we just get the best two. Apart from the 2.0T Ultimate, all other Sonata models here in Canada feature a 2.4-litre four-cylinder powerplant that develops 185 horsepower and 178 lb.-ft. of torque. The power is then sent to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.
The alternative engine is the standard unit found in the 2.0T Ultimate, and not surprisingly, it’s a 2.0-litre turbo-four that puts out 245 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. The power is once again sent to the front wheels, but with this engine, it’s done through a standard eight-speed automatic transmission.
Features and equipment
Standard features and equipment with the entry-level Sonata Essential include 16-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, automatic headlights, heated front seats, a rearview camera, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, power features and air conditioning. Infotainment is really well taken care of by this entry model as it comes standard with a 7.0-inch touchscreen system with Bluetooth connectivity and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
The 2019 Sonata comes with an impressive list of standard safety features, including ABS brakes with Electronic Brake-force Distribution and Brake Assist, Blind Spot-Collision Warning with Lane Change Assist, Electronic Stability Control with Traction Control, Vehicle Stability Management and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning. Luxury and 2.0T Ultimate models also come standard with Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keeping Assist and Reverse Parking Distance Warning.
